portfolio

This portfolio section is to show samples of my work. From my writing style, to how I put a program together. I’ve also included some multimedia samples I’m proud of.

Highlands Church denver ethos

While familiarizing myself with Vyond animation studios I developed this animation for my local church. It was really a labor of love.

This ethos is central to the spiritual beliefs of my community. We say it every Sunday as a community, and it felt special for me to be able to add meaningful visual elements.

This item applies the multimedia principle, a principle in which Mayor explains people learn more deeply from words and images than from words alone (2009). “When learners mentally connect words and pictures, they are engaged in meaningful learning that is more likely to support understanding, as measured by transfer tests” (Clark & Mayer, 2023, p71).

History of the Service Members reAdjustment Act A.K.A G.I.bill graduate paper

This is a graduate paper on the history and significance of the G.I. bill. One of the most successful pieces of legislation in the 21st century, it hit the sweet spot between andragogy, government subsidy, and exponential growth.

The legislators had the courage to try a solution that had never been before done. The significance of this bill is lost to most Americans. I don’t ever want to forget how government policy forever changed the upward trajectory of generations of Americans. How it forever changed adult education.

“Within 7 years of the legislation being signed into law approximately 2.3 million veterans attended colleges and universities, 3.5 million received school training and 3.4 million received on-the-job training. From 1940 to 1950 the number of undergraduate degrees awarded by colleges and universities doubled and the percentage of Americans with an undergrad or advanced degree increased from 4.6% in 1945 to 25% half a century later according to national archives” (National Archives [1944], 2022).

the crown act

A radio advertisement for the awareness of the Crown Act, developed as part of a discussion for multicultural and special populations.

This faux advert demonstrates the diversity of my work and my ability with an auditory medium.

This asynchronous distance learning example teaches about recent legislation concerning discrimination based on hair texture. Though it is an auditory medium it shares principles with mediums like podcasts. distance education is a viable and important approach to learning and teaching that should be one option of many available (Simonson et al, 2015, p12).

From theory to action: lay leader facilitation plan

I developed a plan for a multicultural program to bring comprehensive, transformative multiculturalism into an adult education classroom. The plan is to develop lay leaders at Highlands Church with a DEI foundation and an eye on developing facilitation skills.

It is part of my portfolio as a remembrance stone. One of the reasons I initiated the AET program to begin with, though I am not sure I will act upon completion of the program.

The theoretical framework of Multicultural Organization Development (MCOD) is applied, positioning the church on the redefining aspect, actively exploring the significance of a multicultural workforce. Banks’ social action approach aligns with the church's emphasis on amplifying diverse voices. In addition to developing facilitation skills the program would educate for critical awareness, emphasizing increased understanding of power, privilege, and oppression within and between groups (Castagno, 2009).

Finger Foods and Finance: Financial Literacy Program

I developed a financial literacy program for Highland’s Church Denver patrons.

My interest in finance is ever present and the overlap between church history and church finances is significantly larger than most Christians are aware of. This is another remembrance stone, one that I do plan to iterate in the future.

The proposed financial literacy program employs a robust instructional design model and innovative assessment methods. The program includes a number of learning assessments with the most significant being the budget simulation. The simulation has direct application and can be used immediately upon completion of class, or even during class; “Such learning is the ultimate form of application…” (Fink et al, 2013, p.214).
